The sword-disarming technique Ude-gurami can be countered before the arm-bar can be applied, provided uchidachi is quick enough to recognize what is happening.
As shidachi draws the large circle with his right foot to spin, in the attempt to apply an arm-bar and gain control of the weapon, uchidachi (while maintaining proper posture) takes a large step forward with his left foot.

With a snap-pivot back to face shidachi, uchidachi brings his bokken vertical and takes the centerline.

Laying the bokken on shidachi’s shoulder,

uchidachi steps back left-right tsugi-ashi and cuts with hiki-giri.
